16th EASA Biennial Conference
New anthropological horizons in and beyond Europe
21-24 July 2020 in Lisbon
ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon and ICS-Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon
COVID-19 Situation Update
Update on 17 March:
As the pandemic remains a very serious concern all over Europe and elsewhere, we are unlikely to have a solution for the conference by 1 April. Opening the Early Bird registration will therefore be delayed another two weeks, to 15 April. We will then get in touch again and hopefully inform you of the decision, be that having the event as planned in July, postponing EASA2020 to a later date or moving it fully or partially online. Please stay safe!
As the situation of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) develops in the world, we wanted to keep you informed of the actions being undertaken in the context of the EASA2020 conference. We are closely monitoring all developments regarding the spread of the virus and the proposed cautionary measures undertaken by European authorities.
There is no current public health guidance to cancel large conferences in Portugal taking place from the end of June onwards because of COVID-19. As of today (10 March), we intend to proceed with the conference as planned, but have decided to postpone opening Early Bird registration until the beginning of April [NOTE CHANGE on 17 March - now 15 APRIL] when we should have clearer guidelines in place from the ISCTE-University of Lisbon and Portugal. Publishing the panel timetable will also be delayed 3-4 weeks.
If the event is subsequently cancelled, we will refund all registration fees. Membership fees are non-refundable. However, please note that we will be unable to compensate for any other financial losses you might incur (travel, accommodation etc).
In case you have already made travel arrangements, please make sure you buy travel insurance now, too - one that has a good plan for trip cancellation or interruption. You may want to check whether it has an exclusion for communicable diseases or pandemics. Travel insurance bought before a country has been listed among high-risk destinations should allow you to claim back expenses in case of cancellation, unless a world-wide pandemic is announced by WHO - but please do check the details with your insurance provider. As of today, Portugal remains a low risk destination (see daily updates here).
You may decide to register and then cancel your attendance because of increasing restrictions on travel and heightened health concerns. In this case, cancellations up to three weeks before the event will be refunded in full. Requests for refunds should be addressed to the conference admin email address.
Another option is to request to convene/present remotely. We had intended to limit non-virtual panels to one remote presentation each, however current circumstances may require a more flexible approach. If this option interests you, please contact the conference admin email address once Early Bird registration opens.
We will update the website and email all participants if the approach changes.
Any queries with the above please email conference(at)easaonline.org.
