Advert for editorial and production assistant - entanglements: experiments in multimodal ethnography

Dear colleagues,

entanglements: experiments in multimodal ethnography are seeking an Editorial & Production Assistant. This is a voluntary role, and we are looking for a commitment of one year (encompassing two production cycles) in the first instance.

entanglements is a peer-feedback, open-access journal set up in March 2018. It is an experimental journal focused on the multimodal ethnographic theory and practice and is published twice a year. The journal aims to enable and encourage forms of expression and communities of practice around multimodality in a range of research topics and across disciplines and media. The editors will discuss and work with authors on the production of multimodal articles. entanglements is published online only. entanglements is a voluntary endeavour, and we have no paid staff members.

entanglements is published online only, and we are a dispersed team, working together remotely for the majority of the time. We use a range of virtual tools to organise and co-ordinate our activities. You will need your own computer and a reliable internet connection. We publish two issues annually, and this role will involve two key peaks of work, in February and September, with additional administrative work across the year.

The Editorial & Production Assistant will provide administrative support to the Editors and the Editorial Board, including tracking submissions and monitoring deadlines for authors; will provide proof reading and copy editing for submissions; and will service annual Editorial Board meetings.

Required skills:

  • Excellent grasp of English language and written communication
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to plan and manage your own workload effectively to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and from your own initiative, seeking guidance from the Editors when necessary
  • IT skills and word processing (using Microsoft Word and Google Docs). Additional experience using Adobe InDesign would be desirable.

This role is open to Masters and PhD students, particularly those from a social science or English Language or Linguistics background.
