Our new website

EASA has a new website. A main requirement for the rebuild is access for networks to add and edit their own content.

This presentation is a short guide into the structure of the site, meant as an introduction rather than a detailed instruction. Follow the link below to find detailed instructions with screenshots.

Use the new logo

We have a new logo which is available for download in multiple formats. Please make sure all Network materials use this logo from now on.

What's missing?

Some networks had content such as Resources which seemed partly outdated – so we would like to coordinate an update of such content before we add it to the new site.

In 1-2 cases there were also unexpected large sections hiding in the depths of the Network pages which are are still working to transfer.

2 Networks have mailinglist feeds which we are in process of deploying.

The directory

We are working on integrating this into the new site. Each convenor have a field on their Network page where they can enter their link to the directory.

What we have gained

All events and publications are now separate entities (posts) with custom fields such as date, location and deadlines (events) or editors, year, authors (publications).

This means that content is bite-sized, and contained into a strict formatting and structure, and allows us to display content, ie by network or date.

The modular structure also opens for filter and search on field in the future, ie we could list all the Network convenors of all networks on a page, or we could setup a search for Network convenors.

Most importantly we have gained a very functional Events calendar, which means that when a network editor adds an event, that event will automatically display in multiple places such as the site menu (if imminent), the Events page, the network’s main page  and the Network’s events page, as well as of course have a direct link for sharing to social media. If the event’s call for contribution is upcoming, this will also display in the calendar, menu and networks pages. We can filter all the events into the Newsletter to distribution to the members.

 

What we have lost

We have lost a little flexibility, as we need a uniform structure to allow for the complex categorization or 60 networks, the access for network editors and the ordering of content by network.

We have also lost the member lists that some networks displayed, for these reasons: 
– very difficult to maintain and keep up-to-date, in terms of institutions and living status.
– large numbers of members to list

Please note: we still have all the content from the old site, and you can add the members to the body of the network page, if you wish. We do however not have special fields for members in the way we do for Network convenors, board members etc.

User registration and access setup

Please supply the name and email of one person from the network who will be the dedicated editor of the network’s pages. The email address will be your username. Once you have submitted your email, access will be set up within ca 2 working days. (insert form)

What you can edit and/or add to the website

Network editors can EDIT the following sections:
Their own network page with its many fields and main content section.

You can also ADD, EDIT and DELETE posts, specifically Events, Publications, News, Resources and Newsletters in your network.

Nework logo?

This is a great time to upload a larger or updated version of your network logo, which will be the identifying graphic for your network. Ideally this image should be minimum 1200 x 626px. You can upload this logo to your network pages, and it will display in all relevant places on the website and social media.

Network organisation fields

These fields are filtered into the Organisation tab on the network pages.

Network convenors have multiple fields to describe them, such as institution, bio and image. See https://easaonline.org/networks/anthropology-of-peace-conflict-and-security/?tab=organisation for an example.

Organisation structure

This tab is called Organisation because networks name their group in different terms, ie Board, Co-ordinators and mostly Convenors.

You can enter multiple groupings in your Network organisation section, and specify roles for each person.

Editing your network page

This is where you can edit the content you see on the main network page’s Home and Organisation tabs. You can edit the body text and  many fields below.

This is NOT where you edit single events, news, publications or resources. These are all separate posts which will display on your network page automatically.

Adding and editing posts, events, publications

These content types are where you will find the new system most useful. Here you can add, edit and un-publish news content which will then filter into the relevant places on the Network pages and the main site.

What type of content?

If it has a ISBN/ISSN number = publication
Is it a video?  = could be publication or resource
If it has a date = event (including podcasts)
Is it a newsletter? = post with tag Newsletter
is it a Resource? = create a post with tag Resource
Is it other news? create a post with no tag

What you can't do

You can’t edit the titles of the tabs on the network page.

You can’t add your own categories or tags – this is because these decide the filtering of content into tabs and pages.

We are of course always open to suggestions and feedback.

Separate designs/structure

You can’t change the layout or design of your page apart from adding images and changing your logo. If you would like a totally different look, this should be planned and budgeted for. If a network diverges too far from the website setup, it could be difficult for us to auto-display their content, ie in the events calendar (but not impossible).
