The Department of Anthropology & Archaeology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Digital Heritage. Our department is advancing the University of Calgary’s strategic plan, Ahead of Tomorrow, by contributing to the “Digital Worlds” research area of focus, which seeks to understand data and human connection through transdisciplinary approaches.

Equally, we welcome expertise in social and cultural anthropology, including critical curatorial and museum-based approaches to digital technologies, community memory and digital technologies, digital ethnographies of heritage platforms and publics, community-integrated digital heritage initiatives, digital data governance and policy, ethical data lifecycles involving metadata, access, consent, and reuse, and the study of AI and online networks as they intersect with heritage.

Candidates whose work addresses Indigenous data sovereignty and aligns with frameworks such as OCAP®, CARE, and FAIR, as well as community-controlled access (e.g., Local Contexts), are especially encouraged to apply.
