The network

The Visual Anthropology Network of the European Association of Social Anthropologists aims to cover all aspects of Visual Anthropology. The network makes significant contributions to the EASA conferences, organises workshops, publishes an online journal, and uses a mailing list to share updates about current developments in the field. The network is managed by a committee of EASA members.

The network was established at a meeting attended by fifteen EASA members at the 1996 conference in Barcelona. Subsequently a planning meeting was held at which the interests, organisational structure, communications system, and immediate activities of the network were agreed and set out.

Network activities

  • VANEASA publishes AnthroVision – an electronic online journal dealing with visual anthropology. We have created this platformto to promote innovative – multimodal – ways of academic publishing. Anthrovision publishes anthropological and interdisciplinary contributions, and is open for a variety of approaches and media practices. It is especially interested in contributions that combine textual with visual, sonic, or audiovisual materials.
  • VANEASA organises network meetings and contributes to workshops, panels, and film screenings at EASA conferences. We also meet at film festivals in Europe.
  • The popular VANEASA mailinglist has a feed here on the homepage. Browse the latest posts to the right or click on the link to subscribe.
