Network for Psychological Anthropology

ENPA

Background and Description

The European Network for Psychological Anthropology (ENPA) is a thematic research network of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA). Since our founding in 2018, we have continued to grow as an active and dynamic network of scholars and practitioners primarily based in Europe, though spanning the world. We are unified by an interest in psychological anthropology, a multifaceted field with diverse meanings and approaches. Some key foci include: sociocultural analyses of ‘psy’ fields, interdisciplinarity between anthropology and psychology, and forms of ethnography that centre subjectivity and psychological experience. The ENPA’s Board and membership meet regularly online throughout the year, and in person at the biennial EASA and ENPA conferences. The network fosters an international community that brings together academic, practitioner, clinical, artistic, and activist perspectives, and networking across career stages. We aim to nurture innovation and collaboration in research, teaching, and scholarship, and to shape public anthropology, public policy, and research-informed practice. Membership of the Network is free of charge.

ENPA activities currently include:

  • Organising a biennial conference to enhance the visibility of the field and offer spaces for international collaboration and exchange.
  • Hosting monthly “Work in Progress” online seminars to promote intellectually stimulating and caring scholar discussions, constructive peer feedback, and community building.
  • Fostering the ENPA Junior Scholars community, an open peer network for early-career researchers and students to support each other in their journeys in psychological anthropology in academia and beyond.
  • Running an ENPA website and members directory to facilitate networking among members.
  • Collecting and archiving crowd-sourced resources related to psychological anthropology such as publications, audio and visuals.
  • Running the ENPA Blog, a platform for creative thinking, and innovative writing, expression, and knowledge exchange.
  • Disseminating perspectives to wider audiences through a podcast with a rolling call for applications to produce a podcast series.
  • Running an ENPA mailing list and social media that share opportunities including for funding, calls for papers, and academic positions.
