Insights from Anthropology of Childhood (X) – Back to method. Assessment and anthropological perspectives, Belgium

For the past 9 years, the methodological seminar « Insights from anthropology of childhood » has
hosted exchanges for junior and senior researchers in anthropology based on their ethnographical
fieldwork experiences. These experiences are rooted in long-term participant observation along with
critical and reflexive stances. Fieldworks have been conducted in several European, Latin-American,
African and Asian countries. Since 2015, the seminar has taken place in parallel at ULiège (Belgium)
and at El Colegio de San Luis (Mexico). Over the years, several issues have been explored such as
gender, play, the body, fieldwork diary, ethics, consuming, restitution and kinship. The leading principle
of each edition is that participant observation with children, because it raises key-questions and essential
issues, results in a magnifying effect that highlights more general questions. The previous editions have
led to several editorial projects, some have already been published and others are still in progress.
