The MAE Conference 2025 is an international hybrid conference. It aims to bring together scholars, practitioners and activists in the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria, to discuss contemporary Redefinitions of Health and Well-being.
Recent events of global importance like the COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts and wars, as well as climate change, have accelerated the need to redefine ideas of health and well-being. Taking note of emergent and persistent practices, ideas, experiences, technologies and discourses related to health, medicine and healing in such troubled times, the MAE Conference 2025 is a forum for anthropological and critical global health research.
The MAE Conference 2025 is co-convened by the EASA Medical Anthropology Europe Network and the Health Matters Research Group of the University of Vienna. Medical Anthropology Europe is a forum for scholarly and political discussion on the anthropologies of health and medicine in Europe and beyond. The Health Matters Research Group works at the intersection of Critical Medical Anthropology, Global/Public Health and Feminist Science and Technology Studies, aiming to understand how health matters and how health is mattered. Our call for panels will open in October 2024 – stay tuned and subscribe to our MAE Mailing List to be updated!
