XERRADA: Què és l’antropologia digital i què investiga? – Institut Català d’Antropologia

Since the 1990s, anthropology has been introduced to the exploration of the virtual world, but it was not until the COVID-19 pandemic that anthropological research studies on the Internet began to become more numerous in the academic field and better known to everyone through social networks.
In this talk we propose to make known what digital anthropology is, what are the researches that opened the ethnographic path on the Internet, what are the methodologies and techniques used, what are the theories that are discussed, what are the applications in the labor and productive market, the agenda of future studies and interdisciplinary practices.
In this way we make known the result of four months of work of the Digital Anthropology and Ethnography Group of the Catalan Institute of Anthropology created in September 2025 as well as the agenda of activities that we have planned for 2026.
