CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
Jubilee Volume Dedicated to Professor Michał Buchowski on the Occasion of His 70th Birthday and 50 Years of Academic Work
Dear Colleagues,
On the occasion of the jubilee of Professor Michał Buchowski – a well-known and respected social anthropologist, scholar, and academic teacher whose work has shaped the landscape of Polish and European anthropology for more than five decades – the Editorial Committee has an honor to invite you to contribute to a commemorative volume dedicated to his scholarly, pedagogical, and institutional achievements.
This publication will not only serve as a tribute to Jubilant but also as an opportunity to reflect on the ideas that inspired his research and helped shape contemporary anthropological thought. We propose to treat it as a space of encounter – both with texts that develop themes central to Professor Buchowski’s work and with critical, memoiristic, or experimental contributions engaging in dialogue with his oeuvre in the spirit of openness and intellectual curiosity that has always been his hallmark.
Potential inspirations include both the classic research areas of Professor Michał Buchowski and their contemporary reinterpretations, including:
- studies of transformations in Central Eastern Europe,
- critical analyses of new social hierarchies and discourses of subordination,
- research on rationality and theories of modes of thinking,
- critique of hierarchies in knowledge production between centers and peripheries,
- theory, methodology, and history of anthropological thought,
- multiculturalism, migration, xenophobia, and racism,
- circulations and transfers of knowledge, as well as the translocation of concepts and theories.
We also encourage creative extensions of these themes, including reflections on contemporary anthropological practices, relations between academia and society, or personal and institutional perspectives aligned with the tradition of engaged anthropology represented by Professor Michał Buchowski.
The volume is intended to be open and polyphonic. In addition to standard scholarly articles, we welcome submissions in other formats, such as: essays, polemics, letters, memoirs or miniature portraits, ethnofiction, anthropological stories, comics, fieldwork notes, and visual materials (photographs, sketches, excerpts from field journals, scans of manuscripts).
Submission Guidelines
- Please send an abstract (approx. 800 characters including spaces) by 15 January 2026 to: jubileuszmb@gmail.com
- For contributions other than standard articles, please include a short description of the proposed form.
- After acceptance of proposals, full texts should be submitted by 15 March 2026.
- The review process is planned for April, followed by editing and production work scheduled for May-June 2026.
- The length of the individual contributions will be specified once the proposals have been selected.
We hope to create together a publication that will not only document the achievements of Professor Michał Buchowski but also serve as a living archive of the ideas, practices, and relationships his work has inspired across diverse contexts of contemporary anthropology.
The volume will be presented to Jubilant during the EASA 2026 international conference “Anthropology: possibilities in a Polarised World” in Poznań (21-24 July 2026).
With sincere regards,
The Editorial Committee
