We – L’ubica, Francesco and Christine – have been honoured to act as co-convenors of AGENET since our election at EASA2024 in Barcelona. As our terms come to an end, we would like to invite all members to nominate or self-nominate to fill this role and continue the success of our network. Please email your (self-) nominations to us (e-mails below) no later than the 20th of September.
What AgeNet convenors do
The EASA network rules state:
- Each network must have at least two convenors based in different institutions and in different countries
- Convenors should be elected every two years and be in office for no more than four years. Only active members should vote.
- The requirements for convenors are: During their term in office, network convenors answer to the EASA Executive Committee, liaising with the EASA Networks Liaison Officer (part of the EASA Executive) and with EASA’s administrators (NomadIT). Network convenors must keep in regular contact with the Networks Liaison Officer.
- The convenor team closely collaborates with a social media team and – if established – with the AgeNet Advisory Board.
- They will also assist in the organization of the EASA biennial meeting in 2028 (such as by selecting and promoting our dedicated network panel, providing a panel guide for AgeNet members, and if possible organizing an informal network event.
- They are strongly encouraged to organize or support the organization of an AgeNet conference, workshop and/or webinar series in 2027.
- They also compile regular network reports or newsletters to communicate their activities to the network members
- The incoming Convenors mandate will start on 1 October 2026 and will finish at the end of the EASA Biannual Conference in July 2028.
Eligibility
AgeNet is a dynamically growing network. Taking up this role offers a great opportunity to build on the current alliances and on-going conversations in order to take our community of practice, and so also the Anthropology of Ageing, into exciting new directions. We are flexible with requirements as long as the nominee is able to fulfill their responsibilities for the full term. We would like to give junior academics a chance to gain leadership of a professional network and encourage nominations from all.
- Anyone who is a member of AgeNet is eligible to vote, nominate a candidate or to self-nominate. Subscription to AgeNet mailing list is sufficient to be considered an AgeNet member (you do not have to be a pre-paid member of EASA to be nominated – but you will need to become an EASA member if selected to serve as a convenor ).

Please include the nominee’s title, affiliation, and country as well as contact information + 150-word candidate presentation (including, in the case of self-nominations, what your plans as an AgENET co-convenor would be).
Selection process
If we have fewer than two nominees, we will consult the network to see if one or more of us should continue for the time being (convenors can remain in the role for up to four years). If we have more than four eligible nominees, we will hold elections shortly after the call for (self-) nominations closes. If we have three or less eligible nominees, we will assume that all these nominees will receive the confidence of the group.
