EASA webinar: Anthropological Responses to Scholasticide

Organised by the EASA Working Group for Human Rights and Academic Freedom

28 October 2024, 19:00-21:00 CET / Brussels time

At the EASA2024 conference, a group of members presented a motion concerning collaborations with Israeli academic institutions in light of the ongoing systematic human rights violations in Palestine, Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity and, plausible genocide committed in the Gaza strip. The membership is called to vote on the motion to suspend relations with Israeli academic institutions. The electronic vote will be open to all registered EASA members between 1–30 November 2024.

This webinar, organised by the EASA working group on human rights and academic freedom, aims to provide EASA members with current and research-based information on the state of academic freedom and the right to education across Israeli and Palestinian universities, allowing them to vote on the motion in an informed manner.

The panel will feature anthropologists Amahl Bishara (Tufts University), Sarah Ihmoud (College of the Holy Cross), and Maya Wind (University of California, Riverside), who will discuss the responsibilities of Europe-based anthropologists at a time of scholasticide.

The discussion will be chaired and moderated by Ruba Salih (University of Bologna).
