Funding
17th EASA Biennial Conference
EASA2022: Transformation, Hope and the
Commons
School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen’s University Belfast
26-29 July, 2022
There are two distinct funds one can apply for here: low-income support AND low-carbon travel.
Deadline for applications: 22 May 2022
We will endeavour to make and communicate decisions by 9 June 2022.
Low-income conference support grants
Through a generous award from the Wenner-Gren Foundation, supplemented by EASA money, funds are available to support delegate attendance. The funds are for both online and face-to-face (F2F) delegates.
The rules and criteria for application are straightforward:
- ALL applications must be submitted via the online form.
- Applicants should not seek 'double-funding' (i.e. if you already have full funding from another source, you are ineligible). Our aim is to support those who only have partial funding from another source or have no funding at all. However you may apply for low-carbon funding from EASA as well.
- Requests for funding may cover registration (online and F2F delegates) and accommodation and travel (for F2F delegates), but NOT membership subscriptions nor the conference dinner.
- In order to support the most number of delegates, only partial funding will be provided to all successful applicants, not full funding.
- Only those earning 1200 EUR or less net income (includes funding and = after any tax has been deducted) per month may apply.
- Funding for delegates will be prioritised, in this order: (1) early career researchers; (2) those convening a panel/ lab or presenting a paper/ film; (3) all above things being equal, long-term EASA members will be given priority.
- Demonstration of other partial sources of funds by the applicant will not deter the committee from allocating funding support to the applicant, should they meet the eligibility criteria.
- Please keep your 'other information' concise. Details about your paper, how important this conference is to your career, etc. are not helpful. Keep to facts regarding alternate sources of funding, how much funding would be helpful to you etc.
- If you make a mistake, please do not resubmit, but email conference(at)easaonline.org
Online delegates
Funding awarded will be allocated as a registration fee waiver in our system, meaning you will either pay nothing for registration or a discounted registration fee. Please do not pay your registration fee until you hear the funding results.
F2F delegates
The initial portion of funding will be allocated as a registration fee waiver in our system; any allocation exceeding that will be remitted to recipients' bank accounts on receipt of electronic receipts for travel and accommodation. Successful applicants must pay their costs up-front and submit receipts in order to be refunded ahead of time or at the conference. (An inability to pay up-front should not discourage you from applying for funds as exceptions can be made in cases where this is not possible.)
Conditions of funding
If an online funded delegate cannot attend, their fee waiver will be removed and provided to another eligible candidate. If a F2F funded delegate is unable to attend the conference, they may be asked to return the full sum, if the circumstances merit it. Receipts are required in order to receive funding. These are the conditions accepted in applying for the funds.
With the continued economic downturn and deterioration in institutional funding, we envisage competition will be huge: we are likely to receive 2-4 times the number of applications we can assist. Applications have a greater chance of success if the amount requested is low or just for registration fee waivers, as we would like to help as many delegates as possible.
Low-carbon travel funding for f2f (separate from the above)
EASA is offering funding to support delegates who decide to choose a more sustainable way of traveling to Belfast (e.g. by land/sea), rather than by air. Read our guide to overland/sea routes to Belfast.
Rules and criteria
- Application is by online form only.
- Eligibility is not based on your level of income
- This funding is not available for those travelling within the island of Ireland.
- This low-carbon travel funding may be granted in addition to the above EASA/Wenner-Gren Foundation support - they are not mutually exclusive.
- If you make a mistake, please do not resubmit, but email conference(at)easaonline.org
Conditions of funding
If a funded delegate cannot attend or changes their mode of transport back to a high-carbon form, the funding will be removed and provided to another eligible candidate. Receipts are required in order to receive funding. These are the conditions accepted in applying for the funds.
