Funding

17th EASA Biennial Conference
EASA2022: Transformation, Hope and the Commons
School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen’s University Belfast
26-29 July, 2022

There are two distinct funds one can apply for here: low-income support AND low-carbon travel.

Deadline for applications: 22 May 2022

We will endeavour to make and communicate decisions by 9 June 2022.

Low-income conference support grants

Through a generous award from the Wenner-Gren Foundation, supplemented by EASA money, funds are available to support delegate attendance. The funds are for both online and face-to-face (F2F) delegates.

The rules and criteria for application are straightforward:

Online delegates
Funding awarded will be allocated as a registration fee waiver in our system, meaning you will either pay nothing for registration or a discounted registration fee. Please do not pay your registration fee until you hear the funding results.

F2F delegates
The initial portion of funding will be allocated as a registration fee waiver in our system; any allocation exceeding that will be remitted to recipients' bank accounts on receipt of electronic receipts for travel and accommodation. Successful applicants must pay their costs up-front and submit receipts in order to be refunded ahead of time or at the conference. (An inability to pay up-front should not discourage you from applying for funds as exceptions can be made in cases where this is not possible.)

Conditions of funding
If an online funded delegate cannot attend, their fee waiver will be removed and provided to another eligible candidate. If a F2F funded delegate is unable to attend the conference, they may be asked to return the full sum, if the circumstances merit it. Receipts are required in order to receive funding. These are the conditions accepted in applying for the funds.

With the continued economic downturn and deterioration in institutional funding, we envisage competition will be huge: we are likely to receive 2-4 times the number of applications we can assist. Applications have a greater chance of success if the amount requested is low or just for registration fee waivers, as we would like to help as many delegates as possible.

Low-carbon travel funding for f2f (separate from the above)

EASA is offering funding to support delegates who decide to choose a more sustainable way of traveling to Belfast (e.g. by land/sea), rather than by air. Read our guide to overland/sea routes to Belfast.
