Letter of support for ABA and democracy in Brazil
In support of Brazilian scholarly societies demand for accountability from the attackers of Brazilian democracy and their backers.
I am writing on behalf of the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA) of which I am President.
Watching from afar as Brazilian institutions are attacked by coup plotters, EASA affirms its solidarity with the Associação Brasileira de Antropologia (ABA), a fellow anthropological association that has always stood for the principles of democracy and social justice. We are in agreement with the statement posted on the ABA website by the Humanities, Social, Applied Social Sciences, Linguistics, Letters and Arts Forum (FCHSSALLA) and signed by multiple Brazilian scholarly societies, which seeks accountability both from these attackers and from the powerful interests that back them.
