CFP 2025 EASA joint workshop Energy, Environment, Human and Other Living Beings
Dear VANEASA members, colleagues and friends,
We are delighted to inform you that the Energy Anthropology Network, the Environment and Anthropology Network, Humans and Other Living Beings, as part of EASA - European Association of Social Anthropologists, are launching a call for proposals for the joint workshop ‘Undercurrents. Metabolic Infrastructures of Survival‘, to be held at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Italy) from 19 to 21 May 2025 .
The call is open to proposals that explore the interconnectedness of energy systems and infrastructures, human and nonhuman agencies, and environmental dynamics. We invite contributions that engage with the entanglements of infrastructures, the metabolic flows they shape, and their impacts on both human and nonhuman lifeways in the context of the Anthropocene.
While traditional papers are most welcome, we especially encourage proposals for sessions and activities that embrace experimentation (INCLUDING AUDIO-VISUAL, MULTIMODAL, SENSORY) and reflect the interconnected themes of the workshop. In addition to creative formats, the workshop will feature field visits offering a grounded exploration of Venice’s intricate energy flows and ecological dynamics.
Anthropologists Cymene Howe and Dominic Boyer from Rice University and Jamie Cross from the University of Glasgow will be our special guests and will lead collaborative activities with the participants.
Please send your proposals by Friday 21 February to: [ mailto:enviroant.network@gmail.com | enviroant.network@gmail.com ] For more details, see the attached call for proposals.
Looking forward to receiving your applications and hoping to meet up with many of you in Venice.
For the organizing committee, Umberto Cao and Ragnhild Freng Dale Energy Anthropology Network convenors
