Performing archives workshop for Palestinian diaspora in Scotland (1 open space)

-Apologies for crossposting-

Dear all,

My name is Theo Panagopoulos, I'm a Palestinian filmmaker and PhD researcher on performance at the University of the West of Scotland and I'm currently running a 2-day workshop at the National Library of Scotland for the Palestinian diaspora in Scotland on a rarely-seen Scottish archive of 1930s Palestine. The workshop will include writing, performance and filming (no previous experience necessary).

*The workshop is taking place this Saturday and Sunday (15/6-16/6) and there has been a last-minute opening, in case anyone is interested in signing up. Feel free to spread the word!

CALL FOR WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS: Performing Diasporic Archival Counternarratives

In collaboration with the National Library of Scotland and the University of the West of Scotland, "Performing Diasporic Archival Counternarratives" is a workshop being held as part of a PhD research project at the University of the West of Scotland led by Greek-Palestinian PhD researcher and filmmaker Theo Panagopoulos.

The workshop explores the potential of a colonial film archive depicting rarely-seen 1930s Palestine in empowering the diasporic Palestinian community to reassert agency and create counternarratives through writing, performing and filming (no previous experience necessary).

The workshop is the culmination of Theo's PhD research that has been exploring Scottish film archives that he unearthed from the National Library of Scotland, presenting rarely seen coloured film images from 1935 Tiberias.

By working closely with the archival footage, the participants will explore their own connection with the material through writing, performing and filming. The workshop will take place in English.

Who can apply: Anyone who self-identifies as Palestinian, is at least 18 years of age, and is based in Scotland; preferably in Glasgow due to proximity to the venue, but other Scotland-based participants are also welcome to apply. Participants will need to cover their own travel expenses.

Participants will be selected based on suitability for the research project. Anyone who expresses interest but doesn't get selected will be contacted ahead of time and asked if they would like to be put on a waitlist for the possibility of a second workshop.
